Denture Care Advice

How to Look After Your Dentures

By following this guide, you can ensure that your dentures are with you for years. Maintaining proper hygiene is one of the most important procedures to follow when you’ve received your dentures. Other than increasing how long the fixtures will last you’ll also be able to make sure that the dentures themselves are free from harmful problems such as plaque, stains, odours and tartar build up (hardened plaque that’s been in development for longer).

Keeping Your Dentures Clean

By cleaning in-between the teeth after a meal with a soft brush, you’ll be able to maintain the best possible cleanliness of the fixtures at all times. Make sure to do this over the basin in your bathroom to ensure they’re not at risk of getting damaged from being dropped. By holding them between the thumb, index finger and middle fingers as opposed to the palm of the hand you’ll be able to make sure that they’re nob being held too hard as this could damage them.

Toothpaste actually has the ability harm the surface of the dentures because of the abrasive texture that it has. Therefore it’s best to use either specialist denture cleaning tablets or even hand soap – and make sure to rinse well after use.

Make sure to never sanitise the dentures with bleach or boiling water because you risk causing the fixtures to either fade in colour or crack which has negative effects on both the appearance & functionality

We recommend Curaprox Products to all our patients. At re-enhance Complimentary care packs are provided with all new dentures and can also be provided to non-patients at a charge of £20.00.

Denture Care at Night

We advise our patients that they take dentures out at night which gives your mouth a rest from the fixtures. To stop them from drying out and becoming brittle and fragile you should keep them in a container of water when not in use.

However, some people prefer to wear their dentures when they are asleep, as otherwise they can experience jaw discomfort.
